Why do you need to add a route on the server? pppd will add a host route automatically. The only reason for doing this is if there is a remote network hanging off the client side and you need to route an entire subnet down the ppp link. If that's the case, you can either write a script that runs when this person logs in (I think you can do this) or encourage them to run a NAT gateway so that they only occupy one real IP.
