You normally don't install FreeBSD on a DB25 cable (or a multi port serial card, as it seems the above may be). You normally install it on a computer. Is what you're attempting to ask if the above serial card is supported? I don't think it is by default (but would need a PCI ID to make sure). With the UARTs you mention, it should probably be pretty easy to add support, though. BTW: This is the wrong mailing list. I would very much like to know how you got the idea of sending your question here, instead of questions@freebsd.org - we're trying to eliminate the sources of confusion. Eivind. The stock closed today at $9.72 up 53c on the day to reach another new high. SNN originally profiled NuOncology Labs Inc at $5.46 on July 9 of this year and again at $4.00 on October 25th. This stock is attracting serious investor attention and looks as though it will easily break through the $10 mark by weeks end. SNN expects the market is anticipating either a news release on NLAB's cancer treatment (Arglabin) or possibly the corporate finance side of NuOncology's business. PLEASE NOTE: SNN will be releasing a NEW PROFILE on a company in the WASTE TECHNOLOGY industry in the next 48 hours - watch for your copy. We have reproduced a copy of a letter that was sent out to subscribers of StreetSignals and the Waaco Kid yesterday (Monday December 1st). ****************************************************************** TODAY'S FEATURE: NuOncology Labs (NLAB) ****************************************************************** NuOncology Labs has been featured several times on StreetSignals and in the proceedings of the Waaco Kid since it opened for trading below 6 last quarter. It closed Monday at an all-time high. Momentum indicators have been highly positive during its recent rally, while the stock nearly doubled. Observers of the company suggest that the rally may not be over, and would not be surprised to see a further substantial move over the next few weeks. ****************************************************************** The company's official press releases map out numerous positive trends as NLAB builds out its business plans: In August, NLAB completed the acquisition of all the outstanding and issued shares of NuOncology Labs, Inc. (NuLab), a private Virginia Corporation. The company noted that it now would participate in the multi-billion dollar cancer treatment industry by supporting the research and marketing of a promising cancer treatment along with the delivery of predictive tests for the optimization of contemporary cancer treatment. "Both activities could greatly improve clinical outcomes while reducing treatment costs," said NLAB, "NuLab management will now focus on revenue and market share growth for our oncology laboratory operations and services which provide a full menu of predictive tests on tissue biopsies, including chemosensitivity assays (CSA's), while our scientific team continues development of our lead cancer treatment compound, Arglabin." A few days later, the Company announced additions to its Board of Directors and Management team, culled from experts in oncology research, business development, international commerce, and product marketing. Two weeks later, NLAB began testing and validating the scientific information generated from the Institute of Phytochemistry and the Cancer Curing Hospital, Karaganda, Kazakhstan, on the drug Arglabin. From the official press release: Arglabin, NuOncology Labs' lead cancer treatment compound, was developed in Kazakhstan. Patents have been filed for this plant-derived compound, and it is already approved for cancer treatment in special clinics in Kazakhstan and other republics of the former Soviet Union. Over 200 patients with a variety of cancers have been treated with Arglabin with very promising results and few side effects. Published data shows that Arglabin inhibits or stops the growth of several types of tumors, both alone and in combination with other compounds, more effectively than most current chemotherapy drugs ("Arglabin. Its Structure, Properties, and Usage," Institute of Phytochemistry, Republic of Kazakhstan, 1997). It has none of the severe side effects usually associated with chemotherapy, does not suppress the patient's immune system, and appears to have a very low level of toxicity. Plans have been initiated to develop registration for Arglabin as an ethical pharmaceutical in the United States and other countries outside the former Soviet Union. As well, plans are being developed for clinical trials aimed at securing FDA approval for use of Arglabin for cancer treatment in the U.S. The company then intends to license the technology to a major pharmaceutical company for formal FDA testing, manufacturing, sales and distribution. By September, NLAB found it necessary to move to new facilities, 5 times larger than the former labs. It is estimated that this facility is capable of performing testing to the rate of some 1000 comprehensive predictive profiles per month, as well as providing areas for drug development and general R&D. Perhaps most significant in this path of development is the most recent announcement by NuLab that it has engaged EBI Securities Corp. to provide consulting services and advice to NuOncology Labs concerning business and financial planning, corporate organization and structure, private and public equity and debt financing, acquisitions, mergers and other similar business combinations. ******************************************************************** NLAB, then, has been mapping out clear paths of progress, and appears to have been quietly gathering support for its stock in the past few weeks, without any actual announcements regarding the outcome of the testing and validation trials involving Arglabin. The recent advance in the price of shares appears, however, to suggest that the Street suspects any forthcoming announcements regarding Arglabin could be positive. Trading volume rose significantly during November's rally, suggesting that the Company has attracted added Institutional support. PowerSignals has learned that NLAB will be presenting information to the European investment community in the next 10 days. Unlike other biotech's, NLAB will not be solely dependent on the success of its lead compounds. NLAB intends to establish a series of predictive oncology testing labs utilizing its proprietary technologies. The benefit of predictive testing to patients is clear. NLAB technology will enable doctors to test patients to determine which modes of therapy might work best on any given individual before actually administering a course of treatment, which can be notoriously rife with unpleasant and painful side effects, and still prove the incorrect and ineffective treatment for that person. Naturally, if Arglabin proves as effective in trials as the Company hopes, the revenues derived via licensing the compound to a major pharmaceutical company for formal FDA testing, manufacturing, sales, and distribution could become substantial. Should the Street come to believe that NLAB could turn profitable in its testing operations, and have further proof of the effectiveness of Arglabin as a cancer treatment, the shares of NLAB could be expected to follow the course of numerous other stocks of companies pursuing quality cancer treatments higher. ******************************************************************* The above article is copyright Capital Markets Communica- tions. Lesson number 1, please send questions to freebsd-questions@freebsd.org. :) Lesson number 2, you almost certainly don't need to run your own DNS server unless you are hosting a domain. If you are and you don't know how to run BIND, get the book "DNS and BIND, 3rd Edition" from O'Reilly and associates. For the customer I just wrote this bit of text. feel free to abuse it for the FAQ, manual or manpage. I just found natd(8) a bit thin on the ground with examples. I am sure this can be improved; but currently there is very little to copy from. Dw. ----- Item. How to map a few IP addresses from the clients 'internal' network onto one or more 'external' addresses. 0. Throughout this example we have the following players: vx0 external interface; connected to 139.191.145.0/24 xl0 internal interface; connected to 10.0.0.0/16 10.0.x.y 'internal' machines 139.191.145.x 'external' machines 139.191.145.80 the machine which runs natd 139.191.145.8x x=1..9 free IP addresses. 1. Follow the instructions in natd(8). In step 2, the kernel rebuild, be aware that most 2.2 and up systems use an LKM module. So you will have to recompile this module as well. So after adding the IPFIREWALL and IPDIVERT do something like: # configure the kernel. do NOT use '-n' # config MYKERNEL cd ../../compile/MYKERNEL # compile the kernel make && make install # recompile the LKM cd /usr/src/lkm/ipfw make & make install 1. Create a small configuration file; /etc/natd.cf in which you put something like redirect_address 10.0.0.2 139.191.145.81 redirect_address 10.0.2.4 139.191.145.82 redirect_address 10.0.1.7 139.191.145.83 I.e in this case we are making the machines 10.2, 10.4 and 10.7 visible to the outside world in a contineous 81 to 83 range. 2. Add a new firewall type in the rc.firwall file, #... just after the 'open' elif [ "${firewall_type}" = "natd" ]; then /sbin/ipfw add divert natd all from any to any via vx0 /sbin/ipfw add pass all from any to any elif [ "${firewall_type}" = "client" ]; then .... 3. Specify this firewall in the rc.conf firewall_enable="YES" # Set to YES to enable firewall functionality firewall_type="natd" # Firewall type (see /etc/rc.firewall) 4. And start natd, for example from your rc.local if [ -f /etc/natd.cf && -x /usr/sbin/natd ]; then outside_if = vx0 /usr/sbin/natd -f /etc/natd.cf -interface $outside_if \ && echo -n ' natd' 5. If you are masqurading hosts onto the external site, as in the above example, you will have to add the 'alias' to the external interface. You could use something like this: # add the external address from the natd.cf mapping file # to the aliases for our primary interface # strangers=`grep ^redirect_address /etc/natd.cf | awk '{ print $3 }'` for alien in $strangers; do ifconfig $outside_if inet $alien netmask 0xffffff00 alias done fi Dw. --------------27CFC13279DA8EBE05C26925 Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="Dirk.VanGulik.vcf" Content-Description: Card for Dirk-Willem van Gulik Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="Dirk.VanGulik.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit begin:vcard n:van Gulik;Dirk-Willem tel;fax:+39 0332 78 9185 tel;work:+39 0332 78 9549 x-mozilla-html:FALSE url:http://me-www.jrc.it/~dirkx org:Joint Research Center of the European Commission;Software Technology and Applications, Institute for Systems, Informatics and Security version:2.1 email;internet:Dirk.vanGulik@jrc.it title:Mr adr;quoted-printable:;;TP 270 - ISIS/STA=0D=0AJoint Resarch Center;Ispra;VA;21020;Italy x-mozilla-cpt:;0 fn:Dirk-Willem van Gulik end:vcard --------------27CFC13279DA8EBE05C26925-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Fri Dec 4 08:11:35 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id IAA17498 for freebsd-doc-outgoing; Fri, 4 Dec 1998 08:11:35 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from pluto.plutotech.com (mail.plutotech.com [206.168.67.137]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id IAA17493 for ; Fri, 4 Dec 1998 08:11:32 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from kelly@plutotech.com) Received: from plutotech.com (tampopo.plutotech.com [206.168.67.161]) by pluto.plutotech.com (8.9.1/8.9.1) with ESMTP id JAA24009; Fri, 4 Dec 1998 09:11:09 -0700 (MST) (envelope-from kelly@plutotech.com) Message-ID: <3668099C.E9A94706@plutotech.com> Date: Fri, 04 Dec 1998 09:11:08 -0700 From: Sean Kelly Organization: Pluto Technologies X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.04 [en] (X11; I; FreeBSD 3.0-CURRENT i386) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Kris Kirby CC: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Learning SGML for docs? Yes, you are crazy. :-) To be pedantic, SGML itself isn't too bad. It's the various Document Type Definitions (DTDs) that are defined using SGML that are monstrous, such as the huge, perhaps untamable, but enormously powerful Docbook. > Anyway, my > question is: What items do I specifically need to write acceptable SGML > docs? I would assume a text editor, but if there is a port running > around that makes life just a tad bit simpler. Easy: the One True Editor: GNU Emacs . Seriously, Emacs's PSGML mode and font highlighting does make the task more approachable. Even Justin Gibbs, a staunch vi'er, admitted to me that he fires up Emacs whenever he has to write documentation in Docbook. > Being SGML, I'm going to > assume that there is some master list of all the possible (applicable?) > tags. You mean Docbook, not SGML. (Yes, I'm definitely in pedantic mode today.) > I'd kinda like to know where I could get an electronic copy. I finally was able to install FreeBSD on my laptop, after partially overcoming a significant obstacle: My laptop has an external CD-ROM Drive (via LPT1 and printer cable connection): MicroSolutions Bantam Backpack CD-ROM Drive. This device does not seem to be on the list of supported devices with my FreeBSD documentation. I have installed a fraction of the core packages and other files from the CD via XCOPY to my DOS partition on the hard drive, then using the setup and install programs from DOS to install the kernel, packages, etc. to my UNIX partition of the hard drive. However, neither XCOPY nor Windows95 copy command can copy some of the files with special characters in the filenames. Therefore, I have several questions in an attempt to get more out of my distribution copy of FreeBSD: 1. Is there currently FreeBSD-compatible driver for this Drive? a. If so, how do I obtain and install it? b. If not, is there some "mostly compatible" driver and/or procedure which would allow me to access my CD-ROM drive directly from UNIX? 2. Is there some other method by which I can transfer more files from my CD-ROM to the UNIX partition on my hard drive? 3. Do you have any other suggestions for getting more out of my FreeBSD under these conditions? I've just uploaded a new version of the tutorial to that URL (it's almost at the point where I'm comfortable putting it in the CVS tree, once I've sorted out some bootstrapping issues). I'm also doing some experimentation with CSS for the HTML, so it might have a bit of an 'angry fruit salad' look at the moment. Doubtless that'll change in the future. If there are specific packages you're interested in, you might just rename them and run pkg_add(1) on them. As long as the suffix is .tgz, the pkg_add command doesn't care about the rest of the filename (except when loading dependencies, but you can also load those by hand). > 1. Is there currently FreeBSD-compatible driver for this Drive? > > a. If so, how do I obtain and install it? You'd have to jump all the way to 3.0 and the new parallel port bus stuff. If I'm not mistaken, your CDROM uses one of those internal parallel-to-SCSI adaptors which we now support. If it doesn't and is actually something seriously proprietary then "never" might be a more honest prediction for the support date. :( > b. Any standard SCSI CDROM and the Adaptec SCSI PCCARD controller will be a good match. > 2. Now that 2.2.7 and later support Win95 long filenames, you could even get the files across using their correct names (though you'd have to find those correct names by looking in the TRANS.TBL files since Win95 *STILL* hasn't got working rockridge long filename support for CDROMS!). - Jordan To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Fri Dec 4 16:11:54 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id QAA12022 for freebsd-doc-outgoing; Fri, 4 Dec 1998 16:11:54 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from nothing-going-on.demon.co.uk (nothing-going-on.demon.co.uk [193.237.89.66]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id QAA12014 for ; Fri, 4 Dec 1998 16:11:49 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from nik@nothing-going-on.demon.co.uk) Received: (from nik@localhost) by nothing-going-on.demon.co.uk (8.8.8/8.8.8) id AAA18342; Sat, 5 Dec 1998 00:09:09 GMT (envelope-from nik) Message-ID: <19981205000908.17786@nothing-going-on.org> Date: Sat, 5 Dec 1998 00:09:08 +0000 From: Nik Clayton To: van.woerkom@netcologne.de, nik@nothing-going-on.demon.co.uk Cc: kelly@plutotech.com, kris@airnet.net, freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Learning SGML for docs? To see what these documents look like when converted, go to If you go there, you'll get the separate HTML. Replaced index.html with book.pdf book.ps book.dvi book.html book.txt book.rtf to see the converted version. The process isn't quite perfect yet, but I think it's almost good enough for the Handbook. Note in particular that "plain text" is just that, no underlines, or bold, or other attempts at additional formatting, just the text. This should remove one of the causes for questions on this list. Give me a day or so to finish a Makefile and write instructions on what to install, and this'll be ready for other people to download and test building. N -- C.R.F.
