It was an error on my part. There is a message explaining the user must run the 'config.sh' before using xmcd. I did not see this message originally because after it is printed to the screen, yet more build output and a security notice is display, pushing the original message off the screen. So, aside from maybe making sure the message is seen by the user, the bug was a dud and can be closed.
