Was your ethernet card detected during the boot sequence?  Watch the 
kernel messages for your driver type.

If you don't see it (or it says "not found"), then put -c on the Boot: 
prompt and configure the proper settings for your card with the proper 
driver.  (use "visual" to see what driver is what)
