You mean it doesn't rebuild automatically onto a hot spare (or rebuild
automatically once you swap the bad drive with a good one, if you have
no hot spares)?

I don't see any on Compaq's site; I don't see anything on there for
Linux, either, so you can't even use that under emulation.

Actually, you shouldn't have to boot the Smart Start CD if you created
a Diagnostic Partition before you installed FreeBSD.  You can just boot
into that.
