Nah, the libdescrypt libraries are OK.  libdescrypt handles both DES
and MD5.  Because of the new export laws, libscrypt is now more or
less obsolete.

Better just to alter "passwd_format" in login.conf. You would probably
want "passwd_format=des".  Check the login.conf(5) manpage.
