I don't know the full details of how they've done it. But my
understanding is that they've simply made one or two big collections
representing the filesystems. CVSup takes great pains to update all
files atomically, so it normally wouldn't cause problems to upgrade a
running system. Obviously you have to carefully think through all the
"what ifs", and be prepared to recover from them.
