However, I think that most people only have one desktop environment install= ed, so for them, the current approach works well, while the new patch would dis= rupt them. Let's say one day you updated your packages, and nothing seemed wrong. Then= you reboot your machine, and suddenly you find out that you cannot login to your machine. You need to switch into the console, somehow realize that the beha= vior of slim has changed, and change their .xinitrc. For single-desktop-environm= ent users, they may well simply change "exec $*" to something such as "exec startkde", but it would still take some time. I think that if we want to enable the patch by default, we need someway to clearly communicate this behavior change to the users.
