You're saying that you cd'd into /usr/ports/x11-wm/afterstep, ran "make
install", and it gave you that error?  FreeBSD does not have (and never
has had) a vfs.h, so if you tried to buld it yourself, you probably
configured it wrong.  The port takes care of that for you.
