-CURRENT is ahead of 2.1.  2.1 is "just" 2.0.5  with fixes. It has not  the
latest VM rewrite, the latest PPP, and so on. 

At some   point after 2.1,  -CURRENT will  probably  become 2.3-CURRENT and
-STABLE will be 2.2-STABLE to end up with 2.2-RELEASE and so on.
