We looked at DNS load balancing but I wasn't at all thrilled with the
problems that come from other DNS servers caching the addresses. We're
using apache 1.3.6 with mod_proxy and mod_rewrite without any problems.
It's easy to configure and also seems to work using it with virtual domains
as well. The latter isn't in production but I've tested it under minor load
and seems okay...
