make release needs an actual CVS repository rather than checked out trees. =
 If=20
you want to use checked out trees there are some variables you can use to=20
tell make release to get its trees from there rather than using cvs:=20
EXTSRCDIR, EXTDOCDIR, and EXTPORTSDIR.
