FreeBSD no longer supports these tapes. That's a good thing, too. They're extremely unreliable. The last thing you want is a backup you can't read. If you're really dead set on using these devices, you can find an older version of FreeBSD which does support them. I can't recall which was the last version; maybe 2.2.8.
