The text in section 2.24 should make it clear that 2) and 3) are
*alternative* solutions. Doing both will render the FreeBSD disk
inaccessible. It should perhaps also mention that 1) is a perfectly
adequate solution and that there is no reason to do 2) or 3) unless
you feel recompiling your kernel is easier than typing one line at the
shell prompt. (well, that's not entirely true, but it is in the great
majority of cases)
