OK, I was verifying that nothing had changed here.

Since you're running 2.1.7.1 and I wrote my docs for 2.2, I can't
guarantee that those commands would actually work in that enviornment.  My
suggestion would be to upgrade to 2.2.5 and then re-try formatting your
disk.
