I don't think that this helps, but you never know, did you run Firefox by command line with the "safe-mode" switch? I suspect the culprit could be the entry in /etc/resolv.conf. I'm not using 6.6.6, aka 8.8.8.8, but for testing purpose 8.8.8.8 might be worth a try.
