Our version of GNU awk was 3.5 years old and it has changed dramatically in the meantime. One of the changes is locale support, which I assumed meant that many (all?) of our localisation changes are no longer required. As I wanted to be sure rather than just assuming, I posted to committers asking for it to be reviewed. After a decent interval, I took the lack of any reponse to indicate that either the code was OK or (more likely) no-one was particularly bothered.
