Hi Matthew,

According to RFC1035, the hostname part of your e-mail address
is required to be case INSENSITIVE.

There is not a defined standard for the userID part. However,
by convention the username is rendered case INSENSITIVE as well.
(to make it case sensitive you have to set a flag in Sendmail and
probably other mailers too.)

If your ISP treats userID's as case-insensitive with regards
to incoming e-mail, then they are following the standard if they
upper-case your e-mail address on their webinterface. It's a little
odd, I'll admit, because usually most people that do this do it the
other way - by making the entire address lower-case - but it's within
the standards and perfectly OK.
