If you have been paying attention to the -ports-bugs list, somebody
submitted a patch ...

 ports/82096: [patch] fix recursive PKGNAMESUFFIX in x11-wm/fvwm2


... for this very problem. Search that mailing list and/or view it
on the web accessible somewhere from http://www.freebsd.org/.
