Part 2:

the truely amusing thing is that this is the same machine that randomly
locks up (usually somewhere in the night), and needs a manual reset...this
happens between 2 hours and 2 days of uptime...I lost sed, awk, and a few
other critical things to unexplained SIGSEGV's, and vanishings
(yes...while sed cores, awk literally ceased to exist, eventually).

*cough* sounds like something's buggy, somewhere...

my $.009 of gasoline tax...
