You should benchmark your processors, it may well be that your
Cyrix processor has a significantly faster microcode, or possibly a 
larger internal cache: either of these could conceivably do it..

Nope.. no top open.. I tried the exact same code (after being compiled
on the machine) on all three machines. And when there are multiple
programs like that running, 1% each makes a difference, and that was 1%
for my code base, others use 2-3% more cpu.
