Yes, and yes.  :)  I know better than to mount important stuff async, but I
am definitely kicking myself for gzip'ing it.  

Thank you very much for all the detailed information.  I just got back from
a mini weekend vacation and will be starting in on this recovery tonight.
With all your information and Duncan Barclay's code, I hope to get my work
back soon.  I really appreciate your help.
