Keven What were you using to check performance of your connection and where can I get it. Cable is shared by everyone > on that particular segment. DSL is not shared media. Well, the interconnect to your desk is not shared, but congestion can occur anyplace other than that and it's all shared from that point. FWIW, while with @Home I regularly checked performance and never saw a DL speed less than 1 Mbps from a well connected net that peered with @Home. Typical was about 3 Mbps. That means I was getting the same UL speed and usually more than triple the DL speed of that "private" DSL link (assuming the standard "home" connection at 384/128. At this rate I could not see ANY justification for DSL (actually it's usually ADSL) when they actually charge you more for it than the cable AT&T did. Unfortunately, ATT Broadband has not performed as well as @Home did. I have seen speeds of as low as 64 Kbps since they took over, although it seems better, now. Last time I checked I was seeing about 1.5 Mbps. R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) Ernest O.
