Verified that CentOS VBox guest is able to playback VCD's and audio CD's.

Used CentOS strace to try to get a better picture of its VLC issues with
commercial video DVD's, but couldn't find anything useful.

So it doesn't appear to be a VirtualBox related issue. Though a FBSD ktrace
showed some encrypted DVD component decryption errors, at least the CentOS =
VBox
client on an FBSD-9.3 host IS able to see and work with host CD/DVD media.

The issue, then, may be strictly a CentOS VLC issue. Unfortunately, there
aren't many (free) CentOS/Linux movie DVD players available.

It may be useful to make a note somewhere that Linux (CentOS) guests may ha=
ve a
problem with commercial movie DVD playback and leave it at that for now.
