I was facing the same problem since about a week and today I've found the=
 time to check the problem.
Just before checking the mailing list a reading your discussion, I've sub=
mitted a PR (I'm waiting for the mail to get the number) with a patch for=
 files/patch-ad.

I can confirm that this resolve the problem with freetype and I hope it d=
oesn't break what the original patch was intended for.
