Summary: ports/print/acroread9 DEPRECATED, please adjust the
                    documentation accordingly
           Product: Documentation
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: Needs Triage
          Severity: Affects Many People
          Priority: ---
         Component: Documentation
          Assignee: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: raul.cheleguini@gmail.com

Hi there,

>From the ports collection, it is not possible to install acroread9 as suggested
in Handbook:

https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/desktop-viewers.html

The port's state is DEPRECATED.

Port: print/acroread9
Moved:
Date: 2014-08-30
Reason: Deprecated: many security issues are reported and Adobe no longer
actively supports Adobe Reader for Unix

---

An alternative would be to recommend the ePDFView tool:

"ePDFView is a lightweight PDF document viewer that only uses the GTK+ and
Poppler libraries. It is currently under development, but already opens most
PDF files (even encrypted), save copies of documents, and has support for
printing using CUPS."

Already in ports collection: ports/graphics/epdfview/
