OK, people asked for it. 8)

Under 3.0 as of early March, 337MHz PII on a 75MHz bus, talking to a
4M Matrox Millenium II.

XFree86 3.3.2, 1024x768x32bpp - 790rpm (constant)
XFree86 3.3.2, 1280x1024x24bpp - 845rpm (constant, screen corrupt)
XFree86 3.3.2, 1600x1200x16bpp - 1200rpm (constant)
XFree86 3.3.2, 1600x1200x 8bpp - 2780rpm (constant)

Xaccel 4.01, 1280x1024x24bpp - 970rpm (constant)
Xaccel 4.01, 1600x1200x16bpp - 1480rpm (constant)
Xaccel 4.01, 1600x1200x 8bpp - 6105rpm (constant, screen corrupt)

Performance isn't (to me) so much an issue as the server working.
Right now, neither work properly. The Xig server works better for me
than the XFree server, in that it's hard to use the system when there's
noise all over your windows. YMMV.
