However, some machines' console firmware, or BIOS, does not load any Qlogic firmware, or loads old, buggy firmware. Hence a driver download of firmware is sometimes required for proper operation of the card. >How-To-Repeat: Attempt to install FreeBSD/alpha using a Qlogic 1040 based SCSI card made by Performance Technologies. The SRM console will not download any firmware since it does not recognize the card. I beleive there are probably PCs and and PCI based UltraSparcs which may experience similar problems. >Fix: Turn the qlogic firmware into a loadable kernel module. This can be put on a third floppy (along with other uncommonly, but sometimes required klds).
