I have tried 2 methods, both using pcmcia and they have both failed. The cdrom drive is the one that is supplied with the machine, and for the network install option, I am using a 3Com 3CCFE575CT pcmcia network card. Problem summary --------------- If I choose cdrom drive as install media, it tells me that it cannot find a device, even though I booted from the cdrom. If I choose NFS as install media, it presents me with a list of devices that I can install via. There is no network card listed here. Things Tested ------------- The pcmcia network card works under Linux, so it's not a weird 'win' type device. The NFS share works as this is where I installed my other laptop from (Sony Vaio F403). Full Description of problem --------------------------- The first method that I tried was to plug the cdrom drive in and boot from the FreeBSD CD. I get to the beginning of the install phase and it asks if I wish to use pccards for the install process. I answer yes and it asks me to select a memory address to use. I have tried all 4 options that are presented to me both for the cdrom install and the network install. I have also tried IRQ 3 and 10 for all of these memory addresses. I then get the install screen, choose options, then installation media. When I select cdrom, I get an error message saying that it was unable to find a cdrom device. The second method that I tried was to make the floppy disks, and boot from those. The floppy drive plugs into a proprietry io port on this model, so doesn't use a pcmcia slot. The boot process goes ok, and I am once again asked if I wish to use pccard devices for the install process. As with the cdrom drive, I have tried all 4 memory addresses with both IRQ's 3 and 10. I then choose options, installation media, nfs. I am then presented with a list of devices that I can install from. The network card is not listed there. If I switch the the second virtual terminal and remove the network card and re-insert it, I see messages about card removed from slot 1 and card inserted into slot 1. Any assistance in resolving this issue would be _MUCH_ appreciated. This is the last machine that I need to migrate from Linux, and it's causing my hair to gray :) -- - Wayne Pascoe E-mail: wayne.pascoe@realtime.co.uk Phone : +44 (0) 20 7544 4668 Mobile: +44 (0) 788 431 1675 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message
