I had problems getting KDE to start up after installing 4.2. What I found was that you needed to get rid of /etc/XF86Config. It is for XFree86-3.3.6. Then, I had to run "xf86cfg to finish the configuration. The new XF86Config is located in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11.
