Have a look at http://wop21.wop.wtb.tue.nl/freebsd/hwaccel.html . It's
a description of how I got DRI going with a Matrox G400, based on postings
in the -multimedia list. 

If you want to play linux games, you have to add some extra libs to
/compat/linux. Here's described how:

At the moment, I only have Quake3 Arena Demo succesfully running with DRI,
my other linux games (UT, Sin demo) seem to have trouble with it. UT works
fine with voodoo2 though :-), but it would be nice to have a performance
comparison.
