But if your /etc/hosts doesn't contain the hostname you are after, that only leaves DNS, NIS and LDAP (I think) for the host.conf file to order. For DNS, what does "host whatever.your.hostname.was" show from the machine where you seem to be getting the wrong answer? --Alex
