I'd like to let you all know that I don't think the problem is as widespread as I originally thought. After tens of restarts of ntpd processes I've never experienced any problem synchronizing. No more hung 'ntpd -q' processes either. I suspect the latter was a consequence of my server having problems synchronizing. Michal
