Not that simple unfortunately.  I just tried the cvsup/make world again with
the same result.
I guess that show I've broken something, though I'm not sure how/what.

What's the most sensible way forward?  Clean out /usr/src and start the
build from scratch?

I just did a cvsup and make world about 8 hours ago, everything went
fine. It just may have been temporarily broken. You may want to try
it again before panicing.
