On the other hand, you may be looking in the wrong place: this looks like a mismatch between Emacs and the X server (assuming you're using the X version) or the terminal emulator (assuming you're not). I run XInside to a different machine (BSD/OS), and this may account for the differences. I'm currently on vacation, and I'm accessing freefall via an Atari using vt100 emulation (well, supposedly). It has *lots* of trouble with Emacs 19.29, and I continually have to redisplay the screen. Other programs, such as elm and vi, don't seem to have any problems. Greg
