Sorry. I have them in /usr/local/share. I didn't use our TeX port,
though, but compiled Karl Berry's latest distributions (web*,
lib.tar.gz and his modified drivers).

This requires TEXINPUTS to be set to `/usr/local/lib/texmf/tex//'
for the subdir search. This is done in texmf.cnf in Karl Berry's
latest version of kpathsea. I don't know if it's true for our TeX
port.
