They don't have quite the dependencies that dselect has, but they're still very good. Just mount the second (or third or fourth) CD, or get a TCP/IP connection going, and type make install in the egcs directory of ports. The FreeBSD handbook explains this quite well. I tried out ports seriously for the first time this weekend and it was very good.
