It's not easy for a user to just rebuild the library, I'm afraid.  You
may have to grab the includes, ld, or some such.

Did anyone make a work-around patch for perl for this?  If so, can
s/he contact me?  I think we've been receiving enough questions about
perl lately, a port (or at least a package...Brian? :) is in order....
