This may well be of no help in resolving your problems, but maybe?

It looks to me like your .xinitrc is rather needlessly convoluted. I
just do:
xmodmap ...
xset ...
exec ssh-agent gnome-session

This will also call ssh-askpass and will start the gnome session.

I run Enlightenment, so I can't help on any icewm issues.
