Hauppauge's card are not that bad -- I have two now which are about
1 year old and they are still ticking 8)

Some manufacturers are better than others with respect to quality 
assurance , Hauppauge at least with respect to Bt848 cards falls
into the good quality category.

P.S.: I typically just go to Fry's because their execellent return policy
in the advent of faulty equipment.
