hihi, all -

i have a dell desktop with 3.4 and 4.0 running on it, and i am having a
problem with userland ppp on 4.0 - on 3.4, it has worked splendidly for some
time (i need to use "term" and direct dialing, since i have to engage in a
login interaction that varies with time), with /dev/cuaa1 as the device

on 4.0, however, on the very same machine, it fails when i type "term", with a
Bad File Descriptor error on /dev/cuaa1 (this also happens with the GENERIC
kernel)

i have checked that ppp.conf is the same and tehe devices and permissions are
all as they should be, and am now about to do some isolation testing on the
kernel sio specifications in the configuration file (oh, joy 8-))

any other hints would be helpful

wish me luck,
cal
