    have your custom sendmail install itself elsewhere.
    /usr/sbin/sendmail is *not* sendmail

    roman@freepuppy ~ 1004:0 > file /usr/sbin/sendmail
    /usr/sbin/sendmail: symbolic link to /usr/sbin/mailwrapper

    also, read mailwrapper(8)
