Usually the discs are completely wedged and nothing will recover them :-( I see the same as everyone else - stuff in memory continues to work (even web pages that were in RAM can still be served, so the 5minute poll alarm doesnt go off unfortunately). I hadnt associated it with network activity (I was looking at disc activity) but it is interesting that other people see the network as being the cause.
