This isn't a "port with multiple versions". It has one. There is no need to cram the version number in the directory name. > We've been doing this for years, I don't know why you are suddenly so > worked up about it.... ... because we don't put version numbers in the names unless there is more then one version that people care about (netscape, emacs, XFree86). Other examples of this problem are: mysql322-* and apache13. If the intent was to retire v6 and live on with v7, then we should have had postgresql-devel or some such. The next time this came around (v8?) we could have revived (or if peter already cleaned it, remake) postgresql-devel and again retire it when -devel==mainstream. I can import ethereal0_8_11 when I upgrade, and then delete ethereal, but that goes against the spirit of the port as well. This is also the reason why I chose "postfix-current" and not "postfix-20000531". I think Garrett said it the best (paraphrasing): the program's name is postgresql, not postgresql7. -- Bill Fumerola - Network Architect, BOFH / Chimes, Inc. billf@chimesnet.com / billf@FreeBSD.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
