Next _Unix_System_Administration_Handbook_ (Nemeth, Seebass, and Snyder from Prentice-Hall) -- this is especially important since Derek will be administering his own machine. Finally I'd suggest O'Reilly's When_You_Can't_Find_ _Your_UNIX_System_Administrator_ (Linda Mui).
