FreeBSD was mentioned as the basis for the Mac OS X:

	http://www.theregister.co.uk/000224-000014.html

near the bottom:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MacOS X's FreeBSD microkernel-based architecture makes it an ideal
basis for a high-stable (if hi-fis and VCRs don't crash, neither can
consumer electronics Net appliances) yet compact (store it in Flash
RAM) appliance OS. Just add a cut-back Mac GUI and you're away.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe they are calling FreeBSD a microkernel after seen the
size of a Windows 2000 "minumal installation"? 8-).
