This patch does fix the problem of hanging / crashing when you open / 
save a file:

http://www.pcbsd.org/~kris/autobuildpkgs/patch-fixhang

Just place it in the openoffice.org-2/files directory when you start to 
build. We are using it in our PBIs here, and it works great. I forget 
who made the original patch, but I think they posted it to the list 
somewhere, and it just hasn't been committed to the port yet :(
