This is a feature, not a bug. In fact, if you have two fairly recent 
-stable machines (>4.3-RELEASE, at least), telnet will use SRA, which 
encrypts the username and password (not very well, but better than nothing).

telnet -K will disable this, or you can make a .telnetrc, but I'm not 
sure what the format is.
