Well, I'm assuming that you have FreeBSD 4.0. If that is the case, you
will need to rebuild your kernel to support the soundcard. First you
should go to the handbook online, and look at the instructions for
building a kernel, then make you're own kernel config file, and include
the options:

device pcm

and I think you may need

device csa
