I've received private mail suggesting that the absence of the following
line might be the cause of my problem:

config		kernel	root on wd0

So it _was_ a problem going back to stable after a leave of absence. :-)

Of course, ``disk wd0'' was also missing, but that's not what was
causing my problem.
